WEBGECKO PRESS RELEASE
WebGecko ships APGen™ 2.0 and ASPCache™ 1.0
SEATTLE - February 16, 2001 - WebGecko Software, a Seattle-based Web
development tools Company, announced today that Active Page Generator™ 2.0
and ASPCache 1.0™ are available for purchase and download from
http://www.webgecko.com/.
APGen 2.0 - New Features
The WebGecko
development team has focused on refining APGen 2.0 to be the best solution
for the widest variety of content generation solutions.
- Improved for use with Active Server Pages:
- Debugging - APGen debugging
is completely integrated with ASP debugging, including:
the ability to step between ASP code and APG code; APGen
JIT debugging when running within ASP.
- ObjectContext - The ObjectContext
object allows an APG script to access the ASP objects
(Application, Request, ...) of its parent ASP.
- Logon - The new Logon object
allows impersonation of a user when creating files. Now
developers can write ASPs that give anonymous Web users the
ability to generate and modify Web pages.
- Conversion - The ASPToAPG script
automates conversion of ASP files to APG files, so the
pages can be executed by APGen. While this
script cannot handle all ASP constructs, it
significantly eases the conversion process, and can be
customized.
- Improved for use with caching, replication, and
content distribution products:
- WriteIffChanged - The
WriteIffChanged property makes it easy to avoid
overwriting a Web page unless its contents have
changed. Since caching, replication, and
content distribution products rely on Web page
Last-Modified dates, they can work faster, more
efficiently and further reduce bandwidth usage.
- Improved for use with MTS/COM+:
- Context - MTS/COM+ context is
propagated, so objects created in an APG script inherit
the context the APG script was created in.
- MTS/COM+ Configuration - Detailed
information is included on how best to use APGen with MTS
and COM+.
- Queued Components - Information
is included on how to use APGen with Queued Components.
- Improved support for XML and XSLT:
- Util.XMLEncode -
XMLEncode makes it easy to encode strings for inclusion in generated
XML documents.
- Output.BufferContents - Gives access to the output buffer, which can
be used to apply XSLT transforms to the generated output.
- XML Examples are included.
- Use with other products:
- Task Scheduler - Sample
code for generating Web pages at specified times.
- SQL Server Triggers - Sample code
for generating Web pages when SQL Server Triggers hit.
- MSMQ - Documentation on how to use APGen with MSMQ to
generate content in an asynchronous manner.
- Replication - Documentation on different replication
products, tradeoffs between each, and how to use them with
APGen.
- More examples:
- MSMQ - distributed asynchronous content generation
- Improved example showing how to automate Web authoring tasks
- Discussion board
- SQL Trigger example
ASPCache 1.0
ASPCache is a high-performance component designed to make
it easy to cache data and page fragments in Active Server Pages.
ASPCache's fragment caching feature is designed for use
with APGen, where APGen is used to generate page fragments,
and ASPCache is used to cache the page fragments and write them to
the ASP HTTP stream. ASPCache can be used independently of APGen,
but using both yields the best features and performance.
ASPCache features include:
- Thread-safe COM collection component
- Ultra high-performance data caching
- Page fragment caching
- Set item expiration
- Auto flushes underused items
- Auto updates when cached files change
- Provides best output caching when used with APGen
ASPCache 1.0 is included with APGen 2.0, and is also
sold separately for $99 USD.
